Electrical Engineer and Master in Power Systems from the National University of Colombia and PhD studies, with an emphasis on electromagnetic transients from the Technical University of Darmstadt (Germany), as a scholarship holder from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).
He has been director of the Department of Electrical Engineering, director of the CINDEC Center for Research and Scientific Development, Vice-rector for University Resources, Vice-rector for Research, Coordinator and leader of the creation of the doctoral program in Electrical Engineering and director of the IEI Extension and Research Institute from the Faculty of Engineering of the National University of Colombia.
He has been the director of 6 doctoral theses in recent years (4 with meritorious mention and one laureate), more than 60 Master’s theses and about 80 undergraduate theses in Electrical Engineering at the National University of Colombia and member of theses evaluating benches doctoral studies in Brazil, Spain, Cuba and Colombia.
He was awarded the “International Fellow Award ICLP”, granted in recognition of the contributions on the subject of rays by the International academic community; recognition of the Ibero-American Pedagogy Network with the “Honorable Mention for Ibero-American Merit, Life and Academic, Investigative and Citizen Work”; recognition from the IEEE Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineering as “Exemplary Professional Member in the Academy” and Senior Member; Awarded by the Colombian Association for the Advancement of Science – ACAC in scientific dissemination with the “National Award for Scientific Merit”, recognition of Colciencias as Emeritus Researcher and recognition of Merit in innovation, granted by the Colombian Association of Engineers.
He is currently an Emeritus and Special Professor and co-director of the Research Program on Signal Acquisition and Analysis – PAAS-UN of the National University of Colombia. Emeritus Researcher at Colciencias. Visiting professor at universities in Spain, Japan, Brazil, Cuba and Venezuela.
He has been an active and responsible Member of the CIGRE Working Group C4.04.4B (Lightning in Tropical Regions) Committee based in Paris. Currently Representative of the Colombian academic community in the National Council of Tax Benefits, Member of Number, Vice President and Secretary of the Board of Directors of the Colombian Academy of Exact, Physical and Natural Sciences, Coordinator of the Scientific Council and Member of the board of directors of the center of science and technology Maloka and Member of the Technical Council of the Colombian Institute of Technical Standards, ICONTEC.
He has 18 books and university papers and more than 150 national and international publications in the area of High Voltage, electromagnetic transients, atmospheric electrical discharges and quality of electrical energy.
