Dr. Ricardo Swain Oropeza


He completed his studies at Tecnológico de Monterrey obtaining the title of Electronic Systems
Engineer. He obtained a Master’s and Doctorate degree in Industrial Informatics with a specialty in
Mobile Robotics from the Polytechnic Institute of Toulouse, France. He did a postdoctoral stay at
the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, United States in a project funded by the United
States Army (DARPA).
He joined Tecnológico de Monterrey since the year 2000 and has more than 18 years of
management experience within the institution. He has participated in different research projects in
Spain, the United States, France and Mexico within the area of Robotics and Artificial Intelligence.
He has participated in various study plans committees, as well as in more than 10 processes of
accreditation and re-accreditation of national (CACEI, CONAIC) and international (ABET) educational
programs of the School of Engineering and Sciences of the Tecnológico de Monterrey. He was part
of the team that designed and implemented the Tec21 Educational Model at Tecnológico de
Since 2017 he is the Dean of the School of Engineering and Sciences (EIC) in Mexico’s Western
Region. Dr. Swain was President of the National Association of Faculties and Schools of Engineering
(ANFEI) from 2010 to 2012. He is a Full Member of the Academy of Engineering in Mexico.
